"Glory to God" - the new Presbyterian hymnal - provides the central focus for the music ministry of South Aiken Presbyterian Church. Hymn singing has been described by some as the "theology of the people in the pews - the congregation". "Glory to God" features a mix of traditional hymns, new music with contemporary arrangements and texts, and faith songs from the Church around the world.
The music ministry is further amplified by the adult choirs at the 8:45 AM and 11:00 AM worship services, ably led by Phillip Hare, Director of Music and choir director, and Scott Chappell, organist and pianist.
The choirs annually present Christmas cantatas and other special music throughout the church year.
Other musical worship contributions are periodically made by The King's Strings, an instrumental ensemble directed by David Culp and the SAPC Bell Ringers.
Choirs
We are blessed having both early and late service choirs. Annually, the choirs combine to present a Christmas cantata. The 'early' choir(8:45 AM)is usually small and generally sing melody. They rehearse prior to the worship service in the Sanctuary.
The 'late' choir(11:00 AM)is usually larger and sings in standard four-part voices. Rehearsal is weekly during the school year on Wednesday evening at 7pm in the choir room located in the Family Life Center(this building sets behind the Sanctuary, where the gym is located).
Use of popular arrangers are Tom Fettke, Joseph Martin, Cindy Berry and many other well knowns. However, there is a variety of music that can be heard at SAPC. Our accompanist is a wonderful pianist who has an excellent voice as well. He performs several times per year.
