It is my pleasure to introduce myself and my family to South Aiken Presbyterian Church. I am Reverend Jason Hammersley. I am married to my wonderful, talented wife and ministry partner, Susan. Susan and I have created a beautiful family that includes three children, (Rachel 19, Lucas 16, Sam 10), a dog (Ava) and a cat (Brotherman).
Susan was born in Spartanburg, SC and has spent the majority of her life in Upstate, SC. She is an interior designer, does some graphic design and is an all around creative at heart. She is passionate about discipleship and teaching, particularly focusing on practical spiritual transformation. She is currently enrolled in the CRE program at Union Presbyterian Seminary.
Rachel is 19 years old. She lives in North Carolina, where she is enrolled in college, studying elementary education and hopes to become a third grade teacher.
Lucas is 16 years old. He is a rising junior in high school. He is a leader in the Presbytery Youth Council, a 2019 Triennium delegate, is active in Boy Scouts of America. He enjoys playing basketball, physical fitness and video games.
Sam (Jacobs) is 10 years old. He is a rising 5th grader. He is active in the Boys Scouts of America (Webelos II), enjoys swimming and video games.
I grew up in a small rural community of Peru, Indiana raising, breaking, riding, and caring for Quarter Horses on a four and a half-acre horse farm with chickens, dogs, cats, and seasonal pigs. I was baptized and confirmed in the First Presbyterian Church of Peru, IN. I was very active in sports throughout my elementary and high school education such as wrestling and track. During my high school career and some of my college, I performed in the Peru Amateur Circus. I performed in variety of difficult acts such as the flying trapeze, horse act, trampoline, hand balancing, and juggling. Also, I showed horses in the 4-H Miami County Fair for ten years.
After graduating Indiana University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management and Master’s Degree at Ball State University in Adult Fitness and Cardiac Rehabilitation, I worked as athletic/fitness retail Sales Associate, Personal Trainer, Exercise Physiologist, Medical Sales Representative, and Route Sales Professional before listening and answering the call to full time pastoral ministry.
In a Korean-American Presbyterian Church I received my call to ministry through leadership and participation an Avalanche Ranch Vacation Bible School. After moving to Decatur, GA, I graduated Columbia Theological Seminary in May 2011. I served as a Chaplain Intern and Residency at two trauma hospitals Grady Hospital, Atlanta, GA and Gwinnett Medical Center, Lawrenceville, GA. While in the chaplaincy programs, I was ordained to an Associate Pastor position of Family and Children in a new church development in the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, Duluth, Georgia. While serving the new church development, I sought a call to a Solo Pastor position at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church (EPC) in Coats, NC. It is in the last six years at Ebenezer I developed as a preacher, pastor, and as a servant leader. During these years I have led the church by teaching healthy administrative functioning, emotional healing, and mission direction. At the Presbytery of Coastal Carolina, I have served by Chairing the West Community Steering Committee, been a member of the Mission Cabinet, Strategic-Planning-Organization and Review (SPOR) Committee, and a member of the Listening-Negotiation Committee. I have also served as a guest preacher at the presbytery youth retreat. I have led and moderatored other church’s session as they called new pastoral leadership. I have advocated for men’s ministry and sought to connect churches within the presbytery family. I am currently completing a Certificate of Spiritual Formation from Columbia Seminary and beginning a Certificate in Church Administration from Union Seminary.
I am excited about learning about what God is doing at South Aiken Presbyterian Church (SAPC) and joining that good news. As we discern God’s Spirit together we will make a difference in each other’s lives, lives around us, and in the world. I look forward to serving my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at SAPC
