The Pastor Nominating Committee wrote in 2007 that some of the characteristics and qualifications needed in a pastor at SAPC were; “must demonstrate a passion for the       good news of the Gospel and have excellent skills in Bible-centered preaching and teaching…needs to be approachable, compassionate…must have leadership skills, flexibility, motivation, and a sense of vision for future programs at South Aiken Presbyterian Church.”  One of our favorite characteristics was:  “The successful candidate will be a loving shepherd who demonstrates this love with kindness, humility, and a sense of humor.”

Christopher was born in Baton Rouge, LA and later moved to Hernando, MS.  He graduated from Rhodes College with a B. A. in Business Administration.  While working on his Master’s of Divinity at Columbia Theological Seminary, he interned at 3 congregations including a year-long internship at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC.  Christopher was the pastor of New Providence Presbyterian Church in Raphine, VA for 7 years.  Now, Senior Pastor of South Aiken Presbyterian since the summer of 2008.

Christopher loves reading, watching movies, walking with his dogs, and playing a little golf.  However his favorite sport is football, and he claims that he will watch any game any time!

Alice, Chritopher’s wife is originally from Mobile, Alabama.  She attended Presbyterian College for 2 ½ years then graduated from the University of South Carolina.  She met Christopher at Montreat after their freshmen year of college while they were both serving on work crews from their home churches.  Children, Miriam and Susan complete their family in Aiken…well, the human part of it anyway.

Parish Associate - Rev Judy Bowling

Email: jbowling@southaiken.org

Pastor Judy’s home of origin is Oklahoma and she was raised as a Blue Stocking Presbyterian. Her education started in Kansas, continued in Arkansas then in Richmond, Virginia at the Presbyterian School of Christian Education, and last, Erskine Seminary in Due West, SC. She’s a mom of two sons and the wife of husband, Lee.  Lee is serving the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Swansea, SC.  Yes, you read it correctly; he is serving a Lutheran Church.

Pastor Judy enjoys reading, dabbling in water colors and sporadically crochets.  Lee & her especially enjoy the bird feeder just outside their kitchen window. There are stories that can accompany all of the things she does and has done and she eagerly awaits your stories as well.  Judy knows the steady powerful presence of the Holy Spirit permeates them all and that the God of the mountain top is also the God of the valleys.  She wants to share your mountains and valleys and see how our Lord Jesus will bless us all.

Allison told us when she accepted SAPC Session’s offer in 2007…”I am a child of God and haven’t really known life without Jesus Christ.”  Allison was reared in north-central West Virginia (go Mountaineers!) in Fairmont and graduated in a BA in Health Care Administration from Mary Baldwin College in Stauton, VA.  After working in the health field several years, Allison received her MA in Christian Education at Union-Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond and did two internships.  Allison was the DCE of a new church developement for six years at Tyger River Presbyterian Church near Spartanburg in Moore, SC and has served SAPC since August 2008.

“I enjoy taking trips to visit my family in Atlanta on holidays and my friends during the year.  Since I love seeing where God is working in different cultures, I had a chance to travel with a Presbytery Delegation to Ghana, West Africa.  I love being outside, and I am sure you’ll catch me often at the many parks in Aiken.  Being a part of anything festive is fun to me!

“I see fantastic educations ministry opportunities, opening spiritual growth, and celebrating of God’s love for us.”

Director of Music - Phillip Hare

Director of Music - Phillip Hare

May be contacted through the church office at: 648.9574

Phillip loves choral conducting and particularly the best church choir in the region (really?…that’s just the way Phillip is, always complimenting his choir). He’s a native South Carolinian; graduating from Furman, was the full-time Minister of Music at First Baptist in Belton, SC for 6 years and at First Baptist, Aiken, SC for 7 years.  Phillip began as Director of Music at SAPC in May 1996.  You may see Phillip in various choral groups around the area depending on his available time, such as; South Boundary and Masterworks Chorale.

Organist - Brooke Ridgeway

Organist - Brooke Ridgeway

May be contacted through the church office at: 648.9574

Brooke was born in Washington DC but came to Aiken when 13 months old. In 1977 or 78, Brooke began his organist/pianist part-time tenure at SAPC when a charter member told his wife about the open position. Since 1991 he has played here continuously…12/13/09 will mark his 45th year! Brooke really likes the ‘relaxed’ style we have at SAPC and Christmas music is the best and most fun. The only downside to playing is for the ‘early’ service during cold mornings in the winter, brrrr! :-)

Financial Manager - Tracie Bryant

Financial Manager - Tracie Bryant

Email: tbryant@southaiken.org

Tracie had been a member of SAC for many years when the position of Financial Manager opened up in 2000.  She has an accounting degree and had worked at St Joseph Hospital (now Trinity Hospital).  We count (no pun intended!) on her expertise using the best accounting principles to keep our church in a stable financial position. She works closely all year long with the Administration Committee and Head of Staff.  Tracie says the best thing about being in this position is the having the ability to use my degree and skills.  And, also being able to be with my children since it is a part-time position.  “There is no worst thing being the Financial Manager…it’s a great job and I feel very blessed to have this opportunity to serve in it”.

Office Manager - Mary Ann Laurey

In 2003 this delightful experienced secretary saw an ad saying SAPC was hiring a ‘church receptionist’. She had worked in a TV station, doctors’ offices and a home care/hospice organization (coincidentally where Tracie Bryant, Susan Selden and Martha Ebel worked!). Mary Ann (almost a born & raised South Carolinian) was hired by John Frye and her position blossomed into our Office Manager (she is the “go to” person who knows everything). The drive is a little long but she absolutely loves the work and “the people”, she would change nothing. SAPC would be hard pressed to successfully get through one day without our Mary Ann.

Director of SAP Kindergarten - Jeni Myers

Director of SAP Kindergarten - Jeni Myers

Office phone: 648.9895

Email: kindergarten@southaiken.org

Jeni is originally from up north, Michigan to be exact, but the family lived in many states.  She has a degree from USC in Child Psychology and started as a teacher at SAPC Kindergarten in 2002.  In 2006 Jeni accepted the position of director when the previous lady retired and SAPC couldn’t be happier with their choice.  Not only is she qualified by her education, but the children fall in love with her and you will too!

Jeni loves her position for many reasons; the people that she works with are like an extended family, the children & families, the perfect hours that allow her to be with her young family, etc. etc. etc.  She says, “I feel extremely blessed to work in such a wonderful place”.

PORTER-lifetouch 2009

Kenny Porter - Custodian

May be contacted through the church office at 648.9574

Through member, Preston Weeks, and our HVAC serviceman, Kenny learned of the position at SAPC when our previous custodian was retiring in 2005. Although church custodians originally were the caretakers of the church cemeteries in earlier centuries, however the position has evolved into an more encompassing position of one who maintains our buildings and portions of the grounds. With so much activity at SAPC, Kenny is our man for setting up the gym, Fellowship Hall and other areas for dinners, events, receptions, etc. then tearing down and putting all neatly away, cleaning everything and ensuring Mary Ann is updated on specific needs. When not working, he enjoys being with his family; wife, three lovely daughters and one handsome son in Edgefield. When asked what the best part of being an employee of SAPC he states, “The people and the children. It’s the perfect place to work because of what it is…God’s House”.

South Aiken Presbyterian is as blessed as many other churches to have such experienced and devoted staff.  Although, our church family feels especially blessed…each and every one are truly dedicated to our Savior and furthering His work.  Each of them performs their church work with enthusiasm, smiles, understanding and fun.

We, at South Aiken, think you would be hard-pressed to find an entire church staff of this caliber!
