Currently planned activities:
1. “Food for Thought series to be held on October 13, 20, 27, November 3, 10, and 17, 2010. The theme is “God Feeds Us” and will feature the following classes: Pastor Christopher Crotwellwill present a class on “Reading Matthew.” The purpose of the class is to give a primary reading source in next year’s lectionary cycle (beginning in December 2010), and to give people a basic understanding of the key issues and components of the Gospel of Matthew; Mary Bunch and Michelle Greenwill present a class based on the book, In His Image, by Drs. Paul Brand and Philip Yancey. “The authors show how accurately and intricately the human body portrays the body of Christ. In five sections. Image, Blood, Head, Spirit and Pain, the book will open your eyes to the complex miracle of the human body, and the even more compelling spiritual truths that it reflects;” Allison Kelly’s class will explore theology in Film, Faith and Food as to theological reflection in the Biblical Story. This class will link stories and themes using films like Babette’s Feast, Cars, Butterfly Circus and others. Allison will use film clips to engage with each other about the common themes of community, sacraments and transformation; Barb Johnson will hold a class which will review the history of South Aiken Presbyterian Church. She has done extensive research using Session minutes, oral histories and pictures. The class will look at the people, events, ministries and missions that have shaped South Aiken Presbyterian Church. A book will be forthcoming in the future. Each class is open to ALL ages.
Dinners will be served from 5:15 p.m. prior to the classes which start at 6:00. On the first evening, dinner will be free to all who attend classes; On the remaining five nights, suppers will cost only $7.00 per adult. No charge for children 19 years of age and under.
2. CHURCH WIDE RETREAT: October 22-24, will also use the theme “God Feeds Us.” You will be nourished both spiritually and physically as you take advantage of workshops and fellowship in the setting of beautiful Montreat. Workshops will include Watercolor, Clay Sculpture, cooking, Discussion/Bible Study, and Photography. This is not just a family adventure – the retreat is for everyone. The cost is $60.00 per person. Children under 10 are free. Applications are located in the church office. Space is limited, so be sure to register soon.
