South Aiken Presbyterian Church began our foreign mission to Quimistan, Honduras in response to Hurricane Mitch in 1999. We went first to assist in the rebuilding of homes. Since then we have established a "Sister Church" relationship with The Agape Church. And a non-profit foundation, Honduras Agape Foundation, has been established to include the many churches and global areas that support our mission work. Working together we have built a water tower and clinic, 35 homes for church members, an industrial kitchen and four classrooms to add to their current facility along with a well, which provides potable water. Our outreach has grown to include the construction of a school in a neighboring village; sanitation facilities for three other schools; and the creation of Agape Promises -- a program that encourages children to stay in school through sponsorship. Our first four seniors have graduated from high school and we hope to establish a college scholarship program in cooperation with the local community. One of the most fulfilling programs is the provision of fluoride and anti-parasitic medications to 2000 children twice a year. And the hiring of a doctor to man the clinic which we support with needed medications.
